How long do I need to give for repeat prescription requests?

Please allow a minimum of 4 working days for all repeat prescriptions (two working days). To order repeat prescriptions, you can call us and press option 2 to leave the details in a message.  This option is preferred to leave our phone lines open for emergency calls.  If you do want to talk to us to order your prescription, we would be grateful if you could please call us between 11:00am and 1:00pm (on week days only). Please keep in mind that our orders are only twice a week and delivered on Tuesdays and Fridays around midday.

  • You may obtain prescription only medication (POM-Vs) from your veterinary surgeon or ask for a prescription and obtain these medications from another veterinary surgeon or pharmacy. The standard charge for a written prescription is £22.50.  This charge is for one medication per prescription.
  • Your veterinary surgeon may prescribe POM-Vs only for animals under their care.
  • A prescription may not be appropriate if your animal is an in-patient or immediate treatment is necessary.
  • You will be informed, on request, of the price of any medicine that may be dispensed for your animal.
  • It is our practice policy and on RCVS recommendation, that all patients that have repeat prescriptions have a regular health check every three to six months, depending on condition. This is to ensure we can continue to give high standard care to your pet. This may vary with individual circumstances and will be decided by the vet. The standard charge for re-examination is £44.00.
  • Further information on the price of medicines is available on request.

How do I get to your car park at the Kingsthorpe Surgery?

The car park is behind the surgery and can be accessed via the service road off Osbourne Road.

When and how do I pay?

All fees are payable at the time of treatment or on collection of your pet following a procedure. We do not run an account system and we do not accept payment in installments. We accept all cards, apart from American Express, or you can pay with cash.

Can you claim directly through my pet insurance?

It is our practice policy not to claim directly from insurance companies. You will need to pay your account with us and then we can complete the insurance claim form that you provide to claim your money back. Depending on the circumstance and which insurance company you are with, we may need to make an exception, only by prior arrangement. For further information about this, please contact us or read more about insurance here.

Do you offer work experience placements or voluntary opportunities?

Unfortunately, at this time, we are unable to offer placements for work experience or voluntary opportunities.

What do I need to do before my pet has an operation/surgical procedure and what happens on the day?

Please do not feed your pet after 10:00pm the night before (except rabbits and other small furry pets). Water will be allowed overnight but please remove it at 7:00am (unless in special circumstances). Please encourage your pet to have their normal toilet routine before being admitted.

The surgery opens at 8:00am (Kingsthorpe Surgery only) for admitting patients into the hospital. Please try to be at the surgery between 8:00am and 8:15am, unless you have been made a designated appointment.

There will normally be a short wait and then the veterinary nurse will admit your pet and go through the consent form with you to make sure you fully understand what will happen during the day.

If your pet is having a pre-operative blood test, this will be done soon after admittance. We recommend this for older patients (dogs and cats over and about 8 years old) and ill patients. In case there is anything the vet wishes to discuss with you, you must leave a contactable telephone number. We ask this for any patient admitted for treatment.

You will normally be asked to phone the surgery around 1:30pm if the veterinary surgeon has not contacted you already, to discuss the outcome of the procedure and an approwimate time for discharge.

Patients are nomallyt discharged by a nurse during the afternoon. An appointment is required for this and is made when you call as mentioned above.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact the surgery on 01604 712070.
